This is absolutely disgusting and I cannot believe that. 'Only one in nine rapes are ever reported and a fraction of those brought to trial'.
One of the biggest problems with African countries is the lack of understanding and awarness of HIV and AIDS.
"Zuma also stated that he knew the woman was HIV positive but that he showered after the encounter and because he was healthy deemed this enough of a preventative measure."
Another common misconception is that if a man sleeps with a virgin he will be cured of AIDS, which is another reason why there is huge rape figures in these countries.
It also never ceases to amaze me how it's always the woman's fault. 'She was asking for it'. There is *never* a justification for rape!
I think that charities like Amnesty and Oxfam are doing a great job and one of the huge investments they're making is in education. In those instances it pays off very well, sadly not in all cases though :(
